Catalogue of the exhibition Whom are you seducing, Thamar? Iconographical Studies of Paintings in the Residenzgalerie Salzburg: 10.12.1993 - 31.01.1994 and 26.03.1994 - 30.06.1994
Collections of paintings can be studied from a great variety of aspects. One of the most essential is surely the interpretation of the Meaning of the pictures. In dealing with this theme, many aspects could not be taken into consideration, such as the question of patronage or the uncertain attribution of a painting to a particular artist, etc.; a fact of which the staff at the Residenzgalerie are only too painfully aware. Nonetheless, this description of the iconographical basis of the paintings represents a further step on the way towards a comprehensive study of the whole collection and thus also contributes to a better understanding of the pictorial world of past centuries.
